The work pant for the months that actually get cold. A smooth water-repellent softshell on the outside, thick polar fleece on the inside, cut straight and regular so it goes over boots and under a jacket without a thought.
Fabric: A medium-heavy polyester and nylon softshell with a PU coating, bonded to a polar-fleece lining. The shell blocks wind and sheds rain and wet snow; the fleece holds your heat from the first minute outside. It is deliberately not cotton: cotton soaks through, freezes stiff and takes a day to dry.
Fit & Style: Regular straight leg, mid rise. Belt loops and a real zip fly up front, a hidden elasticated back waistband behind, so they sit right over a thermal and give when you crouch, climb or sit in the truck.
Design & Details: Two slanted front zip pockets, a zipped coin pocket, a flap cargo pocket on each thigh, two flap back pockets, a D-ring for keys or gloves, and articulated knees with curved seams so the leg bends where you do. Plain open hem that sits on the boot.
Occasions: The job site, the yard, the trail, early-morning shovelling, the rink parking lot, a cold weekend outside. Five colours, waist 30–40.
Wash & care
Machine wash cold on a gentle cycle, inside out, with the zips closed and the flaps fastened.
Hang dry or tumble dry low. High heat tires the elastic and the coating.
No bleach, no fabric softener and no iron on the shell. Softener strips the water-repellent finish; the softshell does not crease anyway.

How do the Bastion pants fit?
Regular straight leg with a mid rise. Order your usual waist size — the sizes run 30 to 40 like jeans. The waist figures on the size chart are the relaxed garment measurement, and the hidden elastic back panel gives roughly another inch when you sit or crouch.
If you wear thermals underneath all winter and sit between two sizes, take the larger one.
How warm are they, really?
Warm enough for a full shift outside in freezing weather over a normal pair of underwear, without the bulk of long johns. The fleece is bonded to the whole inside of the leg, not just a panel, and the softshell stops the wind cutting through it. On a mild day they will feel too warm indoors — they are a cold-weather pant.
What are they actually made of?
A polyester and nylon softshell shell with a PU coating, bonded to a polar-fleece lining. The shell is what makes them water-repellent and windproof; the fleece is what makes them warm. No cotton, so they do not soak through or freeze stiff, and they dry overnight.
Are they waterproof?
They are water-repellent: rain, sleet and wet snow bead up and roll off the coated shell, and a wet morning will not get through. They are not sealed rain pants — kneeling in standing water for an hour will eventually get through at the seams.
How do I look after them?
Machine wash cold inside out with the zips closed, hang dry or tumble low, and skip the fabric softener — it strips the water-repellent finish. No iron on the shell.
